Crochet Workshops

Andrea crochet photos 046Whenever I go quiet on the blog, you can be sure it’s because I’m working away on secret projects rather than having nothing to say! In a few weeks I shall have more time to share what’s coming off my hook, but meanwhile you’ll have to make do with the new issue of Inside Crochet which is out today, with my lovely pattern for a crochet doily rug!

One thing I can tell you about is my 2013 workshop programme at Castle Park Arts Centre in Frodsham. You can see all the dates and details below or download a 2013 Crochet Workshops flier. All courses cost £25 which includes materials, a project bag to take away containing yarn and hook and morning refreshments.

I’m really excited to be working with Castle Park. It’s a beautiful venue, with friendly coffee shop, free parking and lovely gallery spaces to explore. You can find directions, facilities and other information about the venue on their website. You can find booking details on the flier or leave a comment here and I’ll send you one.

Dates are as follows: (all Saturdays) 10.30 until 1pm

13th April         Moving on (charts, patterns and motifs).

18th May          Learn to Crochet (for absolute beginners)

1st June          Motifs for the Novice

29th June        Learn to Crochet (for absolute beginners)

6th July            Summer Crochet Projects for the Home

I’ve tried to add a little bit of detail about the classes here, but it’s so much easier to discuss on the phone or by email so you can be sure you’re booking the right course for you.

13th April: Moving on (charts, patterns and motifs).

This is for anyone who has mastered the basic stitches and would like  to begin following written patterns and charts. We’ll look at some basic crochet terminology, follow some simple patterns and you’ll leave with the yarn and hooks you need to complete an intermediate project.

18th May and 29th June: Learn to Crochet (for absolute beginners)

For anyone who would like to learn, or is curious about crochet. We’ll look at basic stitches and techniques, make a simple project such as a flower corsage. This course is specifically for anyone who has never crocheted before and includes all materials and a little project bag to take away containing yarn and hooks. We usually cover double crochet, treble crochet, simple granny squares and a small accessory such as a brooch or choker.

1st June: Motifs for the Novice

For anyone who has completed a Learn to Crochet course or who has already mastered basic stitches. We will make three different motifs including the ever popular Granny Square. The class includes advice on joining motifs, reading charts and how to use simple motifs to create projects for the home such as cushion covers.

6th July: Summer Crochet Projects for the Home

Simple and pretty accessories for the home, including tea cosies, coasters and a simple basket. For anyone who is confident with basic stitches and techniques. Our summer projects include patterns for a tea cosy, shawl and bunting.

A Floral Bouquet

With  loads of magazine commissions on the go and two Learn to Crochet classes booked, life is more than a little hectic just now. By the time we sit down after tea, all I can bring myself to make are these tiny flowers (the pattern is one I use on my learn to crochet workshop and it’s very simple). So far I’ve made 50 of the darn things, I just can’t stop! I’ve promised myself, once the yarn runs out, that’s it. I’m moving on to a ripple cushion, I hear a lovely reader has made one from Nicki Trench’s Cute and Easy Crochet book using Noro Kogorashi and I’m very tempted to follow suit.

Now, back to these flowers – suggestions please – what shall I do with them??? If no-one comes up with anything better, there will be a bunch of people getting floral corsages for Christmas this year!
