cheshireweddingphotographer_282I began writing this post on December 21st, my favourite day of the year. From here on the days begin to get longer , shoots begin to appear in the garden and every day brings the promise of spring.

This first day of winter is a busy one. Traditionally this is the day I cut down the autumn fruiting raspberries, bring holly and ivy into to the house to decorate for Christmas and start baking ready for the “big day”.

It may seem odd to be thinking of spring on this first day of winter, but everywhere I look there is hope and optimism. In a few days I’ll start reading the new seed catalogues, make lists of things I want to grow. I’ll write all the important dates in the 2014 calendar (birthdays, holidays, celebrations) declare my resolutions and then promptly forget them.

But, for the next few days time will also stand still, laptops off, phones off and we’ll celebrate Christmas together. I shall hunker down in front of the fire, light candles and relish these last dark days.

There will be too many presents, too much food, probably slightly too much to drink (there is home made Limoncello after all). But, we’ll also laugh, go for long walks. Snuggle up , read books, squabble over what to watch and whose turn it is to do the dishes.

In short, we’ll be a family and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Stay safe, be happy and I’ll see you all in the new Year.
