I’m a big fan of the Hunger Games books and the films haven’t disappointed either. Like many knitters who saw the film, I was intrigued by the costumes worn by the heroine, Katniss. Her asymetric cowl really caught my imagination. I didn’t set out to “copy” Maria Dora’s fabulous design, but I was certainly inspired by the asymetric shape. Mine still needs a fastening at the neck ( leather strap and buckle are “on order”), as I didn’t want a lot of bulk at the neck. It’s already being worn around the house, despite being unfinished. It’s very snug, very practical and very quick to make! The faux fur trim was added on a whim – in spite of Mr T calling it the “Roadkill” cowl – I like it and so the fur trim will stay.
I may eventually write up the pattern, but for now it’s a “one off”. Hooked by the fire, inspired by the girl on fire!
Yarn details: main body is Cygnet seriously chunky, with a faux fur trim in Louisa Harding Luzia. I used a 12mm hook.

/ December 12, 2013Wow Tracey… you’re creativity is on fire – do you have sparks coming off your hook?!
Fab Hunter cowl – there must be a name pun in there!
Love the books, seen one film (Js too grown up to take his mum these days – so will have to wait!) Katniss is awesome!
Hope you enjoy wearing your unique cowl with pride!
