Inside Crochet: The Colour Issue

Issue 42 of Inside crochet is now on sale and this month it’s stuffed with colour! I’m especially pleased to see my rainbow potholders made it to the front cover. I think this is my favourite issue ever – the boyfriend cardigan on the cover is already high on my “want to make” list, and as we have a holiday coming up soon, I could well be crocheting this very soon.

In other news, “The Teen” is off on her Charity jaunt tomorrow. I hope the sun shines for all taking part and thank you again to all of you who donated.

This is why I always let the sorrel go to seed - free birdfood for the goldfinches! Watching them feast on the seed heads is such a joy, they spend hours carefully balancing on the stems. I feel so lucky to have this garden.

Almost plastic free supermarket delivery! I just wanted to reassure everyone who gets overwhelmed by those photos of the perfectly organised, matchy matchy kilner jar filled photos that it is possible for ordinary, time pressed families to slash the pointless plastic that fills our supermarket deliveries. Yep, there is some plastic here - but it's a lot less than it could be. I can't help wondering though - if Ocado can sell organic tomatoes in biodegradeable containers, why not all their tomatoes? The Johnsons cotton buds have been sold with cardboard cores for ages - and the plastic lids make perfect drip catchers for pots of seedlings in the greenhouse. Pasta and risotto rice are still sold in cardboard boxes if you look for them, the garlic label is compostable. And yes, I do live within travelling distance of a plastic free shop and yes I sometimes shop there, but juggling between work and living with chronic illness it's so much easier for me to get my bulkier food and household items delivered. I refuse to feel guilty about what I don't do. We've reached that point in the year when photos of birds give way to photos of butterflies! Today is wet & cold, but yesterday the sun shone & the garden was full of tiny wildlife. I saw my first swift of the year on my walk to the post office, so lovely to see them swooping and soaring over the rooftops again.

Overblown tulips - doing a great job of brightening the garden while I wait for the peonies!
