Snow Day

As I write this, more snow is falling, covering up our footprints after today’s adventures.

Whenever it snows I see my garden with fresh eyes, spotting things I hadn’t seen before or being reminded of good times.

The horse shoe on the wendy house, put there in remembrance of our beautiful Taran. The teen learned to ride on her, I told her all my secrets. She was a constant companion, always eager to nuzzle in my pocket for a carrot or an apple. I don’t miss breaking ice on frozen water buckets, but I miss her excited snorts when we used to open her stable door and she saw the fresh snow. She would roll in it, her mane becoming matted with ice. Our dog would join in the fun and the two of them would play together like toddlers encountering their first snow fall.

These days, with the teen away at university and no pets to care for, snow days mean a chance to hunker down in front of the fire with strong coffee and the weekend papers.

  1. Years ago we had a ccocker spaniel who loved the snow. We had great fun throwing snowballs for her to chase – it was comical watching her trying to find them when they landed in the snnow!!

  2. Another chapter for you all! Hope you are keeping snug and the teen has more heating than we did at Uni!
Thinking of you and your snowy footprints along your new path.
