When I was a teacher (long ago in a past life) the book I loved to share with the children was Janet and Allan Ahlberg‘s The Jolly Postman, we used to spend hours looking at the exquisite drawings and imaging what it would be like to receive those exciting letters and parcels (If you don’t know the book, do go and find a copy, it’s really quite magical).
I have always loved mail, as a teenager I used to write letters to my friend Ali, we used to include little treats for each other and the highlight of my week was coming home to a letter, with a real stamp and a hand written address. We still swap parcels, but not as often as we should. So, it really shouldn’t come as a surprise, that with a love of the Jolly Postman and so many memories of lovely things arriving in the mail I was quick to sign up to Mousy Brown’s Celebration swap in honour of two years blogging.
Even better, I’ve been paired with Dawn, I read her blog regularly, so it’s a great treat for me to able to pamper her a little. We’ve both promised not to blog about the contents until we both have our parcel, so I’m not going to give away anything here, but I’m having great fun plotting what to put in her parcel.
And, just in time for Christmas, I’ll be announcing a holiday swap here on Baking and Making very soon. I’ve teamed up with a very dear friend to make sure you all have at least one hand made gift this Christmas, so do check back (or subscribe) for details.
Happy Making

/ September 26, 2011OOOh how exciting I’m really looking forward to your holiday swap Tracey.
You are so right – it is great to receive handwritten/handmade goodies in the post…
I unearthed a few more of your missives whilst exploring a cupboard today!
A few years ago we went to an exhibition of Janet and Allan Ahlberg’s work in Worcester Art Gallery…it was so fab to see all those deatiled and intricate drawings up close and many more exciting images and sketches showing the thought processes and details..there was even a tiny illustrated book to accompany the exib a memorable day out!
Looking forward to seeing your swapping stories…

/ September 26, 2011Thank you. Having great fun with the swap – especially trying to “theme” the contents… I have something silver, and a pair and have just thought of the ideal mousey item which requires a visit to one of my favourite shops :) Thanks for organising it.
