If I’m honest, it wasn’t really lost, just buried under the weight of household chores, domestic duties and the general feeling of gloom that always hits me this me of year. The good news is that I’m back – in spirit as well as in body – and I feel so full of optimism for the rest of the year that I definitely have a spring in my step.
I should know by now, that when “It all gets too much”, I need to escape, get myself near the sea, spend time with friends and family and remind myself what’s most important in life. That’s exactly what we did over the “Royal Wedding Weekend”, I have no idea what “the dress” was like, or how big the crowds were on the Mall. But, I can tell you that we made our way to our favourite campsite. All electronic devices were banned, we took books and I had my knitting ( the teen had special dispensation to bring her ipod). The sun shone, we collected driftwod and cooked tea on the beach.
We watched the sun set and then climbed the cliffs back to our campsite (the tide was in too far to wade back around the headland). We talked, we laughed, we imagined we had spotted the school of dolphins – they turned out to be birds – and made plans to do this kind of thing more often. After 3 days of blissful peace and quiet we headed home.
As for the dolphins, they did swim past, but it was at 7am and sadly, the only one of us up to witness it, wasn’t me!!
