My Felted Bag Project

I always used to joke that I never machine felted my knitting “deliberately”. Until now, all my felted projects have been the result of not paying attention to the laundry. But when I bought Uncommon Crochet on holiday last year I was determined to try the Hong Kong Bag. This is my rather tweaked version, and I’m rather proud of it.

From a rather shapeless piece of loosely woven crochet, washed at 50 degrees in the machine, then pinned and blocked a lovely bag has been made.

The strap is a great piece of thrifting – belonging to  a once much loved handbag which gave up the ghost a year or so ago – I couldn’t bear to throw it away.

I’m still not sure felting is my “thing”, but it has produced a strong, sturdy bag and the teen decalred it “Quite nice”. Praise indeed!

  1. Tracey, it has turned out wonderful and to get praise from ‘the teen’ makes it even better.
I love the concept of crochet and then felt, never tried it but might now give it a go. The good thing with crochet is that it grows so much quicker than knitting.

Wow how cool! The colour is really rich…especially having seen and felt it up close (thanks for the parcel! x)
    Excellent upcycling on the strap.
Its good to have a go at things and decide whether or not you can explore them further, sometimes it just gets the urge out of your system!
    Keep up your experimenting!!
