Ever since I was this high
I’ve had my own vegetable patch. I just love to grow stuff. This year I treated myself to Rocket Garden, working on the assumption that being in London 2 days a week I just wouldn’t have time to sow all the veg seeds I’d need and the promise of healthy plug plants ready to pot on and plant out being delivered to my door was very tempting. The plug plants arrived on a cold, damp and miserable morning. Here’s how they looked when we unpacked them.
A few days later they had perked up and soon after we started planting out. For the past 3 weeks we’ve had home grown salad every day – so much nicer than bagged from the supermarket. But, even though we did give over greenhouse room to flowers this year, some how I still find we are growing:
5 varieties of potato, 6 kinds of tomato, onions, garlic, kale, cabbage, cauliflower, calabrese, globe artichokes, shallots, runner beans, broad beans, dwarf french beans, south african bush beans, peas (3 varieties), carrots (4 varieties) salad leaves (9 varieties inc mustard, lambs lettuce, rocket and lettuces), pumkins, courgettes, beetroot and turnips. And fruit – rasberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackcurrants – and edible honeysuckle…
Oh – and spinach and chard and…
Like bags and shoes, a girl can never have enough vegetables!!
Can she?
