These arrived this morning from my gas supplier, they’ll be going straight back. Our house is already well stocked with energy saving bulbs – so we have no need of these – and quite frankly, if I hadn’t already switched my bulbs, these would not encourage me to do so.
We spent a lot of money on the light fittings in our house, and we sought out a great range of energy saving bulbs to fit them. We’ve got a mix if cfls, dimmerables and leds and we’re very happy with them. People have even been known to compliment us on our “pretty bulbs”.
If the energy companies are serious about getting us all to switch our light bulbs before they are phased out entirely, then they have to help us “want” to. That means giving us information about the range of bulbs available and helping to dispel the myths – not reinforcing them by sending these.
B+Q have done a brilliant guide to energy saving light bulbs, and there are some great websites where you can buy bulbs. If we really want low carbon living to be seen as smart and stylish then the energy companies will have to do better than this.

DO NOT send them back – that would double the delivery carbon footprint … now that you have them, find sonmething you can use them for (garage etc?)or give then your neighbours

Thanks everyone for the comments, here and on facebook/twitter. If anyone really wants these lightbulbs you’re welocme to them. But, please don’t ask me to post them – or make a special journey here to collect them – most supermarkets are currently selling the same ones for less than 10p each. I would still rather my energy company sent one really nice, stylish bulb than 4 rubbish ones. or, why not have a reply paid envelope so customers can have them if they want them?

I’m sick of these cheap light bulbs. Can’t the gas and electricity companies send us something a bit more exciting?
